I've been teaching science for 28 years, with the last 18 years at Winston Churchill Middle School as part of the International Baccalaureate program. My career has consisted of teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade science, 2 years teaching math. In the past I've been a staff developer for the California Science Project-INC and K-12 Alliance/West Ed, providing district leadership in science through committees, and often as science department chair for 12 of my 22 years. I was a reviewer for our past 6-8 science textbooks and for 6 years I've was a science judge for the state wide "Environmentality" projects offered to classrooms by Disney and the State Department of Education. For many years I was a head coach of our Science Olympiad team taking them to 2 state Championships in the last 2 years, with last year finishing 4th in the nation. I served for two years on our schools Leadership Team. I was the Co-chair of our CA state science Framework on the CFCC committee for NGSS implementation and I'm currently on my districts NGSS pilot and vision committees. I have a B.S. degree in Biology and an Masters degree in Educational Management, credentials in Life science, introductory physical science, general science and math. Besides my single subject credential in life science I also hold a multiple subject and an administration credential.

My wife is the regional director for a nonprofit science group, which is part of the West Ed. organization. I have two sons (ages 21 and 23) and three adult step children, and six grandchildren ages from 1-6. I earned a Blackbelt in Kempo karate. In my spare time, I like camping, I garden and enjoy my Koi pond.
